Chorazin

Chorazin stood in the northwestern corner of the Galilee region, about three miles north of Capernaum. Chorazin and Capernaum, along with Bethsaida, formed an area known as the "gospel” or “orthodox triangle," an area inhabited primarily by devout Jews.

Because Jesus lived in Capernaum, He spent a great deal of time in the triangle area. In fact, most of His miracles were performed there. (Matthew 11:20 ff) Near Chorazin you’ll find the hillside area where Jesus may have presented the Sermon on the Mount.

When archaeologist began digging in the area, they discovered the ruins of a synagogue. Among the many artifacts uncovered was a “Seat of Moses.” It is the only Moses Seat uncovered to date.

Jesus referenced the Seat of Moses as a position of authority: "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach." (Matthew 23:2-3)
