Jerusalem - New Testament Topography

Herod the Great (builder) changed the natural topography of Jerusalem in his remodel of the city and the Temple Mount. In the graphic below, you see the natural topography of Jerusalem and how Herod filled up the Central Valley to expand the Temple Mount and the city of Jerusalem itself. 

The Kidron Valley basically runs north/south and separates Jerusalem from the Mt. of Olives on the east. The Central Valley that separated Jerusalem from Mt. Zion on the west, was literally filled in for Jerusalem's expansion.
