Jerusalem - Tombs of the Sanhedrin

The “Tombs of the Sanhedrin” are scattered in a small park on the edge of Jerusalem’s ultra-Orthodox neighborhood, Sanhedria. They are also known as the “Tombs of the Judges" and “Tombs of the Righteous”. The name Sanhedrin comes from the Mishna and refers to  the council of  71 Jewish Rabbis who constituted the supreme court in Judea during the Roman period.

The large burial cave contains several dozen niches, roughly the number of the members of the Sanhedrin, from which its popular name derives.
