Jordan - Jerash: The Temple of Zeus

One of two great temples in Jerash, the Temple of Zeus dominates a hill overlooking the city. It is dedicated to Zeus, one of the two patron gods of the city whose Roman counterpart is Jupiter. The ruins you see are from a temple built in 182 AD, which was built over a first century Roman temple, which in turn had been built on the site of an older Greek temple. In Greek times, the Temple of Zeus served as the Acropolis of Jerash. 
The view from the temple is magnificent. The photo below shows the view overlooking the Cardo Maximus to the North Gate.
