Mt. (Hill of) Moreh

Mt. Moreh (or Hill of Moreh) is one of those biblical places that we know more about because of its association with villages that played a significant role in Old Testament history. Ophrah, Shunem, Endor, and Nain are all located at the base of Mt. Moreh.

It is not a spectacularly large mountain—about 1,600 feet in elevation. Its importance lies in the fact that it provided "high ground" for armies fighting in the Jezreel Valley.

The Jezreel Valley was a key east/west highway linking the Via Mares (International north/south Highway) to Persia, Babylon, and Mesopotamia. Whoever controlled that highway controlled the commerce, thus great tax revenues.
