Jerusalem - Wall Street!

Orientation: (Top Photo) You are looking north at the pavement along the Western Wall—what I like to call "Wall Street." The curbs on both sides of the Herodian pavement are visible. In the days of Christ, there would have been vendors (shops) along the sidewalk on both sides. The full width of the street is recognizable even though the right side is crushed and rubble remains on the street in the background. The rubble is believed to be from the stairway that led up to the Temple at the southwest corner of the Temple Mount as shown in the lower photo.

On the southwest corner of the Temple Mount wall, a remnant of the staircase lintel protrudes from the wall. It is known as Robinson's Arch, named after the archaeologist who discovered it. (See Robinson's Arch in the HolyLandSites Archive)
