The Model of Jerusalem at the Israeli Museum is the best way I know to get a peak of old Jerusalem before its destruction in 70 AD.
Originally, it was constructed by Hans Kroch, owner of the Holyland Hotel, in the 1960's, in memory of his son Jacob, killed in the War of Independence. At that time, it was located at the hotel. In 2006, it was broken into 1,000 pieces and moved to its present location about 3 miles away.
The model covers over 43,000 square feet and was built on a scale of 1:50. Archaeologists, historians, and architects contributed in the construction of the model. They based it on the writings of Josephus, the Talmud, and the Torah, as well as archaeological discoveries from Jerusalem itself.
