The Temple of Athena Nike ("Victorious Athena") was built around 425 BC on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. It was built over the ruins of another temple to Athena, which had been demolished by the Persians in 480 BC.

Relatively small for a temple, it measures only 27 feet long, 18 1/2 feet wide, and 23 feet tall. Its size is well compensated because of its lofty position with the Parthenon

A cult statue of Athena Nike stood inside a small 15 x 15 naos. An account by the ancient writer Pausanias describes the Athenian statue as made of wood, holding a helmet in her left hand, and a pomegranate (symbol of fertility) in her right.

Paul was moved at what he saw in Athens and made it clear that the city was filled with gods.

Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols.  Acts 17:16
