The Horns of Hattin

The Horns of Hattin are a steep double-hill outside of Tiberias. It is an extinct volcano that rises about 1,000 ft above sea level. To some, it is the site of the Mount of Beatitudes.

The Horns of Hattin are more associated with Crusaders than biblical events. In 1187, Saladin defeated Guy of Lusignan where approximately 20,000 Crusaders were killed and 30,000 were taken prisoner. This defeat led to the subsequent fall of Crusader castles all over Israel and, eventually, Jerusalem.

If you are there on a clear day, the Horns provide a glorious 360 panorama from which you can see Mt Hermon, the Sea of Galilee and the Arbel Cliffs.
