Jerusalem - Southern Wall Entry to the Temple Mount

This ancient lintel is all that remains of an arched entry from the Southern Wall Steps to the Temple Mount. It would have been part of two arches/gates that Jesus and the disciples would have used in their day.

Above, you see the position of the gate in a picture taken from the Mt. of Olives. After ascending the steps, you would enter the gate and literally walk up through a tunnel to exit onto the Temple Mount. The following photo shows that exit.

This exit is in front of the entrance to the Al Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount. The following photo shows the passageway from gate to exit.

Once you entered the Temple Mount, you would continue to walk toward to the north and straightway come to the Temple itself.

The photo above was taken at the Model of Jerusalem at the Israeli Museum in Jerusalem. I've added it to give you an idea of the southern entry to the Temple Mount in Jesus' day.
