The bell tower of the Church of the Redeemer is a historic landmark in Jerusalem. It is just a short distance from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and was built by Kaiser Wilhelm in the late 1,800s.

Like so many churches in the Old City, the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer was constructed over the remains of an earlier church, in this case the Church of St. Mary of the Latins, which, in turn, is said to have been located on the ruins of a 5th-century sanctuary.

You can go to the top of the bell tower. Climbing the 177-steps is well worth the effort, as it offers breathtaking views of the Old City, the Mount of Olives, and Mount Zion.
