"Main Street," or more commonly known as The Colonnade Street, runs through the center of Petra. It is the ideal place to see the Roman influence in the area. It was constructed between the 2nd and 4th centuries and was used for commercial as well as processionals and political activities.

Much of this area of Petra has been damaged by flash floods throughout the centuries. Dams have now been constructed to protect Petra from future flooding.
