The east wall of the Temple Mount faces the Kidron Valley and Mount of Olives. The Mount of Olives offers a breath taking view of the wall. One of its features is the sealed Eastern [Golden, Beautiful] Gate. At one time, the gate was open and led to the Temple Platform. The Temple Mount is a holy site for the three monotheistic religions, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam; Christianity [for the entrance of Jesus on Palm Sunday], Judaism [for the arrival of Messiah], and Islam [for a future resurrection].

The gate was sealed in 1541 by Muslims in order to discourage the Jewish hope for their Messiah who is supposed to walk through that very gate when He enters Jerusalem. The sealed gate would prevent the precursor of the Messiah, Elijah, from passing through the gate, and the Messiah as well. Furthermore, Muslim graves were put in front of the gate mainly in the belief that a Rabbi [the Messiah] would not defile Himself by entering a cemetery.
